How to Resize a Wood Watch Band by Removing Pins

If you have a LDFAS titanium watch band or a watch with wooden links, resizing it to fit your wrist is a straightforward process that you can do at home. This guide covers removing pins from wood-style and composite watch bands. The process takes about 10 minutes and requires only the pin tool included with your LDFAS band.

Tools You'll Need

  • Pin tool (included with every LDFAS titanium band)
  • Soft cloth or microfiber mat (to protect the band and work surface)
  • Small bowl (to hold removed pins — they're tiny!)

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Measure Your Wrist

Before removing any links, measure your wrist with a flexible tape measure. Compare this to the band's current length — most LDFAS bands ship with enough links for a 15-21cm wrist. If your wrist is smaller, you'll need to remove 1-3 links. For a detailed sizing guide, see our watch band size guide.

Step 2: Identify the Removable Links

Lay the band flat on your cloth. Look for links with arrows on the inside — these indicate the direction to push the pin out. Most wood and composite bands have 3-5 removable links near the clasp end.

Step 3: Position the Pin Tool

Place the pin tool on the pin head, aligning it with the arrow direction. The pins in wood bands are typically friction-fit, so gentle but firm pressure is needed.

Step 4: Push the Pin Out

Apply steady, even pressure on the pin tool. The pin should slide out in the direction of the arrow. If it's stuck, don't force it — try the other end of the link, as some pins are directional.

Step 5: Remove the Link

Once both pins are removed, the link will come free. Repeat for additional links if needed. We recommend removing an equal number of links from both sides of the clasp for balanced fit.

Step 6: Reassemble

Insert the pins back through the remaining links in the opposite direction of the arrows. Push firmly until the pin head is flush with the link surface.

Step 7: Test the Fit

Try on the band. It should sit snugly on your wrist with enough room to slip one finger underneath. If it's still too loose, remove another link. If too tight, reattach a link.

Tips for Wood and Composite Bands

  • Work over a light-colored surface — pins are small and dark, making them hard to find on dark surfaces
  • Don't lose the pins — they're specific to your band model and not easily replaceable at hardware stores
  • Be gentle with wood links — composite and wood materials can crack if too much force is applied
  • Push in the direction of the arrow — forcing the pin the wrong way can damage the link
